Violet Sunsets
I have been on the lakeshore for a week now and have almost perfected
the technique for eating mangoes. The knack is to sit in the lake to avoid
issues surrounding an abundance of juice. I've yet to develop a strategy
for getting all of the fibres out of my teeth though. Unfotunately you
can't get dental floss in Chintheche. After all, it does only have one
street. Another vital skill I have acquired since arriving is driving on
sand. Top tips: high revs, low gears, hoon it on through. I plan to try to
fry an egg on the rocks tomorrow and add 'bush cuisine' to my skills.
Sheesh its hot. The only way around the heat is to get up as early as
possible to get everything done before you drip through the cracks in the
floorboards. I'm living in dread of the thunderstorms that will bring power
cuts and stop my blessed fan from working. Here is the Africa you expect,
in the heat and the dust, in the ghekkoes and the sunbirds. It is so
beautiful. White sand, blue lake, violet sunsets.
